Excuses aside, this is because Microsoft makes your text look nice for printing. Fine, but what about online? Browsers don't natively include converters to handle Microsoft Office's proprietary ASCII stuff.

Fortunately, Jonathan Hedley wrote himself (and all the rest of us) a quick little javascript to do just that. If you find yourself in the unenviable position of having to convert lots of Microsoft Word text to HTML, browse over to his site and copy and paste the text into the top box, hit "Convert" and copy and paste nice, clean text back into a text editor.

Thanks, Jon!
